We thought we were making a wearable fan. Our customers had other ideas.

Release the trapped heat first

A vehicle left in the sun stores heat in its seats, glass, dashboard and trim. Open doors and windows safely before leaving, and allow the hottest cabin air to escape rather than immediately trying to push it around.

Reduce new heat where practical

Use shade, a windscreen or windshield sunshade and sensible parking direction when available. These steps do not make the vehicle cold, but they reduce how much work your ventilation and personal fan have to do.

Create a path for fresh air

Use the vehicle's fresh-air ventilation or safely open windows slightly when conditions allow. A portable fan feels more useful when it is moving fresher air toward you rather than endlessly circulating the hottest trapped air.

Position the fan close to the person

Aim the outlet toward the face, upper chest or torso without blocking mirrors, controls, airbags or the driver's view. Set the angle before moving off so you do not need to adjust it while driving.

Use the lowest speed that does the job

Maximum power is useful for the first blast of heat, slow traffic or demanding conditions. Once comfortable, a lower setting usually gives a better balance of airflow, sound and battery runtime.

Choose the holder for the surface, not the other way around

A secure mounting point is essential. Magnet compatibility varies between vehicles, and a location that looks convenient may still interfere with safety equipment or visibility.

Steel dashboards and brackets

Many older vehicles provide suitable ferrous metal mounting points. A magnetic holder can be fast and removable, but test compatibility first and protect valuable paint or finishes from trapped grit and movement.

Plastic or non-magnetic dashboards

Most disappointing setups are not caused by a lack of speed settings. They are caused by poor placement, unrealistic expectations or an unsuitable mount.

  • Mounting it too far away. Airflow loses impact with distance. Position it safely but close enough for the breeze to reach the occupant.
  • Aiming at the empty centre of the cabin. Target the face or torso of one person, or use two fans when driver and passenger need independent airflow.
  • Expecting whole-cabin cooling. A rechargeable fan moves air; it does not remove cabin heat like refrigerated A/C.
  • Assuming every dashboard is magnetic. Plastic, aluminium and many modern surfaces require a base, clamp or another holder.
  • Blocking safety equipment. Never obstruct airbags, mirrors, controls, the driver's view, pedals or the gear selector.
  • Using full power for every minute. Start high when needed, then lower the speed to extend runtime and reduce sound.

That depends on the conditions and whether your fitted A/C is running. In a vehicle without A/C, allowing some fresh air to enter can help the fan move less-stagnant air toward you.
